Course Description

This course provides a solid grounding in the academic theory underpinning the main concepts of Social Auxiliary Work on NQF Level 4. Learners must attend class/training once a week depending on the specified day at Jo'burg Child Welfare. The curriculum includes a significant 70% practical component based on workplace placements and 30% theory. Learners must do their practical work at their three days every week.

Career Opportunity

With this qualification, successful learners could pursue a career as Social Auxiliary Worker at government departments such as Department Of Social Development, Department of Health etc, as well as various non-government organisations.

  • The Role and Purpose of Social Auxiliary Work

  • Administration

  • Human Behavior

  • Social Problems and People At Risk

  • The SA Judicial System

  • Casework

  • Group Work

  • Community Work

  • Research

  • Chronic Illnesses and HIV/AIDS

  • Victim Empowerment


To receive  the  bursary application form you need to submit the required documents below:

  • Certified copy of your Identity Document/Passport

  • Certified copy of your GRADE 12 certificate passed

  • Short CV

  • Brief Motivational Letter stating why you want to study social auxiliary work

  • A letter (if possible) from your manager stating that they allow you to participate, number of months that you have been working at the organization and your position OR indicate if you must still get an organization to do my practical work.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English as all material is in English.


Must volunteer or find a placement at a social services CBO/NGO where they can do their practical work for the year.

It is recommended that the organization has a social worker to supervise them in the workplace with their practical work.


On Competence/successful completion of the course learners will receive a Further Education and Training Certificate: Social Auxiliary Work NQF level 4 as issued by the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) as well as Statement of Results.

Learner Material

All learning material (Study Guides/Modules, POE, Orientation & Supervision Fieldwork Guides) is included in the tuition fees and will be provided by the institution.

COMPETENCE: Course accredited by Health and Welfare Seta. All Learner Groups who completed the course so far was found competent: Positive verification & endorsement of results by HWSETA.
